Barbara Rund, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on January 9, 2024, at the age of 70 in Austin, Texas. Born Barbara Gene Cler on August 27, 1953, in Anderson, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Patricia Cler.
Barbara, also known as "Dr. Barb" and "Barb", had a passion for medicine and dedicated her career to public health and her life to her husband, four children and six grandchildren. She served as a physician and medical director with the Public Health Service for a clinic in North Carolina from 1982 to 1984.
Barbara's educational journey began at Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, VA. She continued her studies at Ball State University in Anderson, Indiana, and did her M.D., at Indiana University. She also attended Trinity Seminary in Deerfield, IL. while preparing for Medical Mission work in Pakistan.
In her free time, Barbara enjoyed various hobbies including traveling, baking, and cooking meals for others, reading, crafts, and organizing spaces for others. She loved being part of compassion teams to a Native American reservation, Kenya, and Honduras. She found joy in using her skills to bring comfort and happiness to those around her.
Barbara was a person of Christian faith and found great joy in her worship communities. She was a member of Lakeland Free Church in Gurnee, Illinois, as well as Resurrection Anglican Church and Immanuel Anglican in Austin, Texas.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, Jonathan Rund, and their children, Jared & Diane Rund, Nadia & Allen Tate, Caroline & Greggory Oakley. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Oxley, Emmer, Ezra, and Arkhem, by Alton and by Theo.
She is also survived by her brothers and their spouses: Fred & Linda Cler, David & Linda Cler, John & Karen Cler, Jerome & Becky Cler, and Charles & Eileen Cler. She is also survived by her sisters & brothers-in-laws, Elizabeth & John Stringer, Daniel & Jeanne Rund, Sharon & John Steigner, Timothy & Mary Rund, Nathan & Lisa Rund, and Rebecca & Daniel Leavitt.
Barbara was preceded in death by their daughter, Alison Rund, and her brother, Richard Cler. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer & Marie Rund.
