

She was born in Mandok, Hungary to Aron and Suzanne Balogh on April 30, 1925. Barbara migrated with her parents at age three to Windsor, Canada where she grew up with her sisters Irene and Olga.
In 1946 she met Dave Woodland at a USO dance in Detroit and was swept off her feet. They were married for 62 years till Dave's death in 2008. Their first move was to Dearborn, Michigan where they had their first child, David. After being transferred to Chicago, their daughter, Susan, was born. In 1953, they moved to Austin where Barbara was a home maker while Dave and his brother started their hardware business on Congress in the block the family still owns.
Barbara was very active in Congress Avenue Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Youth Group, and gave art lessons. Barbara was a very talented artist and painted beautiful Texas landscapes and florals. The church was the source of all her friends, fellowship, and Christian faith.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband David C. Woodland, Jr.; and her sister, Irene Vincent
Survivors include her son, David C. Woodland III; and daughter, Susan Helgren and husband Jim. Her grandchildren are Emily Anderson (Dave), Blair Helgren (Dawn), Jill Mills (Ryan), Philip Helgren (Whitney), Lily Van Alstyn (Adam), and Dr. David Woodland IV. She has 7 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Canada and Texas.
The family would like to thank all the many caregivers for their endless hours of care and love over the last 12 years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at 12:00 pm and Funeral Service to begin at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 2620 S. Congress. Entombment will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Barbara's name.
