Baudelia, also lovingly known as Momo, was born on May 20, 1929 in Rockford, Ohio to Gonzalo and Maria Portillo. In 1945 she met and fell in love with a handsome soldier, Roberto Guerra, at her brother’s wedding and they got married on July 27, 1946. The union was blessed with six children. She devoted her life to being a homemaker. She lovingly cared for her children, grandchildren and many others.
She had a passion for crocheting baby blankets, quilting, ceramics, porcelain doll making and was famous for her homemade tortillas and spicy salsa. Most recently, her great-grandchildren were her greatest source of joy. She was very active in her church community, taught Missionettes and participated in the women’s ministries. She was a strong leader, a good friend, and a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is loved and will be missed by so many!
Baudelia Guerra is survived by her children, Beatrice Guerra, Alvin Guerra, Rachael (Ken) Lawson, Robert (Linda) Guerra, Linda Guerra Reyes, and John (Hortencia) Guerra, 10 grandchildren and their spouses, 28 great-grandchildren and their spouses, and one great-great-granddaughter. She also leaves behind sisters, Luz Botello and Inez Mendoza and so many beloved extended family members. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Roberto Guerra; her parents; sisters Damiana Garcia, Dorothy Portillo, Paulina Portillo; brothers, Toribio Portillo, Guadalupe Portillo, Gonzalo Portillo Jr.; daughter-in-law Ernestina Guerra; grandson, John Albert Guerra II and great-grandson Isaiah Guerra.
Momo would not have been able to remain at home through her final days without the help of her caregivers, Oralia, Mely, Karla, Raquel, Laura, and Mary. We are more grateful for their loving kindness than words can express. The family also thanks the staff at Enhabit Hospice for their care in the past few months. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort in the fact that she is in Heaven and has no more pain.
