Ever see a saxophone catch fire ?
That's what happened anytime Benny played.
There wasn't a single tune he couldn't belt out and make it sound better !

I was so saddened to hear of Benny's passing. The man with the "wild" saxophone. He drove the band directors crazy. Always friendly ,sweet and charming. And always on that 10 speed bike! You were a constant figure at Brentwood Park here in Austin. I will never forget your performance at the
McCallum talent show, covering Sly and The Family Stone. Students didn't know what hit them. Peace to you my talented friend, Rest In Peace. Sympathy and Prayers to the family. Keep St. Peter entertained!

I went to school with Benny. He was always a sweetheart. Saw him throughout the years, on his bike in Crestview. I always made it a point to wave "hello", and he always smiled and waved. A few times we had the opportunity to stop and chat and he was still the sweetest, most mellow guy. I was just thinking of him the other day - "I haven't seen Benny in a while, wonder what's up". I'm sorry to learn he has passed on.... too soon. So, I want to send my condolences to his family; I know they will miss him as we all will. To Benny, I will say , you were a bright point in my life and the lives of many others and you will be sorely missed. See you on the other side.

I am so sad to hear of Benny's passing. I grew up in Crestview and knew Benny throughput school, and even after as I had the pleasure of chatting with him one day at my Mom's house years after school was over. He was such a sweet, funny person, you just never forgot him, or his love for music. In reading all of the comments in social media as well, he touched so many people's lives. One memory of him I can share: In 3rd grade, we had a drawing activity where we had to draw the person across from us and I drew Benny. It actually turned out to be a really great picture of him (and I am not an artist!), when he had longer hair. The teacher's really liked it, and shortly thereafter Benny got a haircut. The teacher asked me to draw another picture of him with shorter hair, which I attempted, but just couldn't quite capture him again. I guess nothing beats the original, and Benny was an original, with his longer, lovely hair. I hope you all find comfort in the memory of such a nice, special person. Melanie Guthrie, Austin, TX

My deepest and most sincere condolences to my family.. I will always have Benny in my memories, for he brought in the New Years with his music that he loved so much... January 1-1978 he was getting down with his Saxophone.. I remember admiring him and loving his style... a couple of hours later I went into labor and had my daughter at 4:00 am in the morning thinking and enjoying the new birth of my newborn all because of Benny’s awesome music... you will always be in my heart...your cousin Anna Gallardo
