It was at least five years ago that I decided to send "Miss Bertha" a resin bird house, of a yellow finch; the Iowa State bird.  The yellow finch is a small bird, but very vibrant in color; bright yellow body and head with black wings.  Stunning!
(The real thing frequents my bird feeders every year)!
I am a "birder" and I thought "Miss Bertha" might enjoy something colorful hanging outside her window where she could enjoy birds nesting throught the seasons.
When Hope Castillo, her primary caretaker, attempted to hang it outside for her, she was met with much resistance.
"Miss Bertha" was not having it!  She told Hope C., "Nooo, somebody might steal it"!  So this privileged, yellow finch bird house,  spent it's life on one of  "Miss Bertha's" tables.......indoors with her, where she could keep it safe!  :)
(I found this sooooo adorable!  It undoubtedly brought a smile to my heart).

"Miss Bertha" (Acevedo, as she was so fondly referred to, was so very blessed to have Hope Castillo as her primary caretaker.  
It was a friendship that started many years ago; way before care-taking was part of the picture...... they both lived in the same neighborhood.
I recall a couple things my sister shared:
● Going to lunch on occasion with "Miss Bertha".
●Regular trips to the grocery store with "Miss Bertha", for groceries; two things in particular - milk and cookies, something "Miss Bertha" was very fond of.
●The generosity and Love "Miss Bertha" bestowed on Sophie Llanas, our sister and "Miss Bertha's"  friend.
●A one-time road trip.
 Keeping  "Miss Bertha's" memory alive through all the things she and Hope lived and endured....... will go the distance!  
(There is an undeniable history there)!
I'm sorry "I" never met her myself.  :(

I learned something new today, that you don't have to know someone to love them!  Who knew?
