Bessie was born December 24, 1930 in Granger, Texas, a Christmas present to her parents Julia (Kropp) and Frank Kveton at the beginning of the Depression. In 1947 she graduated from Giddings High School, and in 1949 she married her returning veteran Henry Janicek at Martin Luther Church in Giddings on February 8.
The family moved to Austin in 1950 where they became members of Faith Lutheran Church and raised two lovely daughters, Kathy and Nancy. For over 40 years Bessie worked at the Texas Department of Human Resources. In 1990 she retired as an administrative technician. During her retirement Bessie worked as a Reilly Elementary School volunteer for over 20 years.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Henry Joseph Janicek, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Janicek Ivy and husband Jerry of Austin, TX and Nancy Russell and husband Steve of Heath, TX; sister Dolores Mitschke of Navasota, TX; grandson Eric Pruett of Denver, CO; great-grandsons Harry (Ry) Pruett of Olympia, WA, and Jet Pruett of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bessie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be remembered for her kindness to others, her sense of humor, and her love of music and nature (and poppy-seed kolaches).
The family sends special thanks to the devoted caregivers at Silverado Onion Creek for their extraordinary help and comfort.
