Betsy Smyth Brown died peacefully in her home at Cambridge Towers in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, February 19, 2006. Betsy was born November 14, 1923, in Uvalde, Texas, where she was fondly remembered as Betty Belle. At the age of 15, Betsy moved with her parents, Andrew and Kathleen Smyth, to Washington D.C, where her father was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, before later returning to life as a banker and rancher in Uvalde county. Betsy later graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas. Following Hockaday, she pursued her higher education at Sweet Briar College in Virginia and the University of Texas in Austin, where she earned a Master of Arts in Spanish literature. Betsy was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Lawrence Heyden Sr., and later Colonel O. Stanley Brown. She is survived by her three children: Kathleen Heyden Heidenreich, Richard Lawrence Heyden Jr. and Andrew Smyth Heyden, and her 5 grandchildren: Anna Christina Helmer, Max Alexander Heidenreich Jr., Amy Elizabeth Alsup, Jennifer Heyden Collier and James Thomas Heyden. She is also survived by six great-grand children: Brittany and Jacob Helmer, Devon and Keaton Heidenreich, and Madeline and Heyden Collier. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2006 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Uvalde City Cemetery in Uvalde, Texas.
