

Betty Ruth (Basham) Carnes was born on September 10, 1945, to Harlen and Gabriella (Goodman) Basham in rural Tuscola, Illinois. She attended Villa Grove, Illinois, schools and graduated from Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing, Champaign, Illinois. Starting her nursing career at Burnham City Hospital in Champaign, she later moved to California to continue her work.
Betty was married to Paul Carnes on April 17, 1971. She was a member of Southwest Christian Church in Austin, Texas. She always volunteered as needed and she loved her church family.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Carnes; son, Michael (Brittany) Carnes, of Kyle, Texas; grandsons, Alec Carnes, of Lampasas, Texas, Brenton Carnes of Kyle, Texas; and granddaughter; Brinley Carnes of Kyle, Texas.
Betty is also survived by sisters, Florence (Virgle) Millage and Joyce (Frank) Tompkins of Champaign, Illinois, and Alice Brooks of Summer Shade, Kentucky; brothers, John(Claudette) Basham of Estero, Florida, and Paul Basham of Villa Grove, Illinois; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Paul) Diefenbach of Lansing, Michigan, Linda (Robert) Boomers; brother-in-law, Rev. Wayne Rowe of Peoria, Illinois; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jim Basham; and sister, Helen Rowe; sisters-in-law, June Basham; Frankie Basham; and Susan Smith; and brother-in-law, Ed Brooks.
Betty was always kind, had a smile and a hug for everyone, and enjoyed people.
The family will receive friends during a visitation from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday, December 16, 2019, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, located at 6300 W. William Cannon Drive in Austin, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 17, at Southwest Christian Church, 10500 Old Manchaca Road in Austin, with a reception immediately following in the Church's fellowship hall.
