

Elizabeth Elaine Behles Owen, known as Betty her whole life, was born in San Antonio, TX to Haidee and Al Behles. After graduating from Ursuline Academy, she pursued a degree in Education at Our Lady of the Lake University.
Betty later moved to Eagle Pass, TX, where she taught 6th grade. There she met and married Jack Wrigley. They had a son, John B. Wrigley. After Jack’s death, Betty moved to Austin, TX. She met and married Bill Owen in 1980. They had 25 happy years together before Bill passed away in 2005.
Betty taught with the Austin Independent School District until retirement in 1990. During retirement, she stayed involved with professional organizations including the American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Retired Teachers. She volunteered at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends, including playing online in recent years.
Betty was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, where she was active with Catholic Daughters and taught Religious Education. She also cooked and baked for fundraising bake sales and for Safe Place.
Thank you to her neighbors, Karen and Susan, for their companionship and help during her later years.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Jack Wrigley, and Bill Owen.
She is survived by her son, John Wrigley and daughter-in-law, Carol-Beth Wrigley; her grandchildren, Sara (Ben) Hamill, and JB (Liz) Wrigley; her great-grandchildren, Liam & Tiernan Hamill, and John B. Wrigley; as well as her sister, Mary Claire Cater; and niece & nephews.

Services will be held Monday June 16, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church (126 W. Oltorf St. Austin, TX 78704). A reception will be held immediately after at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home (2620 S. Congress Ave. Austin, TX 78704).
