She was born in 1940 in Champaign, Illinois to Bernard and Edna (Peltier) Spath. Her parents raised her in the Christian Faith, a Faith which she kept dear throughout her long life, as Beverly was known to her family as being quite the prayer warrior.
Beverly graduated from Sherman High School in Sherman, Texas in 1958 and also was named 'Miss Sherman.' She married Hugh Darrell Philp later that year and in the following years they welcomed two children, first son Hugh, and later daughter Kelly.
After being widowed at a very young age, Beverly married Pat H. Hood, who legally adopted her two children and raised them as his own. Beverly and Pat enjoyed 49 years together prior to Pat's passing in 2017.
After raising her family, Beverly spent a number of years assisting customers with their crystal and china needs in the Home department at Dillard's department store in Highland Mall. She very much enjoyed her job, the customers she helped, and the people with whom she worked.
Diagnosed with breast cancer, Beverly and her doctors fought with courage and determination to overcome the disease. She then went on to enjoy many cancer-free years.
Beverly is survived by her daughter Kelly Couch of Austin with whom she had been living for the past several years. She was tremendously grateful for the help and companionship Kelly gave her in recent years.
Among Beverly's other survivors are son Hugh Hood and wife Martha of Waco, nieces Lisa Ciabattoni of Dickinson, Texas, and Nancy Meadors of Winter Springs, Florida, nephew Jeffrey Spath of College Station, Texas, nephew James Hood of Sanger, Texas, niece Tracey Holbrook of Huntsville, Texas, and several very close long-time friends in Austin.
Beverly insisted that she have no funeral or memorial service, and her family is respecting her wishes.
