

Beverly Anne Barber Wight, 82, of Austin, passed away Tuesday evening, February 7, 2012. She was born on September 18, 1929 in Fentress, Texas and grew up in small towns across the state. She graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Education, was a proud member of UT’s Beta Eta Chapter of Delta Gamma, and met her future husband on campus. After graduating she taught elementary school in Odessa and at Travis Heights in Austin.
She married Edward McFarland Wight on June 21, 1952 and they were charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Beverly raised three sons who were her pride and joy. She was active in the Women’s Circle Group at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Lamplighters Women’s Bible Study, the Austin Alumnae Chapter of Delta Gamma, Couples Birthday Group, monthly luncheons with her girlfriends and volunteering at Manos de Christos.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Edward Wight, her three sons, David and his wife, Kathleen, Dan and his wife, Gail, Paul and his wife, Helen, and her five grandchildren, Charles, Jennifer, Christopher, Trenton and Kyle. Beverly considered it a blessing that her children and their families all live in the Austin area.
Beverly was a friend to all and held close her Christian upbringing and beliefs. She was a proud and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with family and friends. Beverly will be missed by everyone whose heart she touched.
Memorial Services will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 13th of February, 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, Texas under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggests donations be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, Texas 78757 or Manos de Christos, Hands of Christ, 4911 Harmon Avenue, Austin, Texas 78751.
