

William Earl “Bill” Best passed away peacefully on June 4, 2011. Bill was born on July 10, 1930 in Dayton Tennessee, to Odist Best and Mary Powell Best. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Billie Jeanne Best, his three children, Jeannette Best Goeke (Kevin) David Best (Tammi) and John Best (Maurey), grandchildren Cathryn Beers (Bryant), George Arbogust (McKenzie) Cheryl Nevinger, Quincy Gonzalez, Blake Best, Dylan Best, and great grandchildren Nicholas, Grace and Alexander Beers, and Christian Nevinger . He is also survived by his brother Harold Best (Avanell) of Pace, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Bill joined the Army in 1948 at 18, and spent 20 years seeing the world. He retired in 1968 at the rank of Master Sergeant E-8. He immediately embarked on his second successful career with the University of Texas Police Dept. where he attained the rank of Captain before retiring in 1990. Bill received his Master of Criminal Justice Degree in 1979.
Bill was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. During his retirement, he generously volunteered his time with church activities. He enjoyed time spent on his computer, playing the guitar and growing tomatoes.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 7th of June, 2011 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin.
Funeral Services will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon, Wednesday, the 8th of June at the Cameron Road Church of Christ with Minister Clark Tatum officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Hill Park Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
