Billie Jeanette Lewis Holmes Roberts of Silsbee and Austin, Texas, passed away on March 22, 2009. She was 87. She is survived by her daughter, Danna Holmes Redford, two granddaughters, Robin Redford and Laurel Redford, and a great-grandson, James Redford O'Malley. She is also survived by her uncle and aunts, Charlie Dill and Ruby Lee White of Silsbee, Dorothy Gleitz and Opal McMillan of Houston, and all sorts of cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Ben Holmes, and by her parents Dan and Josie Dill Lewis of Silsbee. Known affectionately by many as "Mama Doodle," Billie Holmes Roberts' incredible life included living in Germany during the American occupation after WWII; living in the Netherlands later and learning to fly while there; having a successful career in Real Estate; becoming the first female radio station owner in East Texas; having another career as a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant; and being an active participant in the Christian Science church. She was also an accomplished porcelain artist and seamstress. To those who knew her, she was spunky, irreverent, charming, and full of East Texas wit and wisdom. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 12, at 3:00 P.M. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78705. All friends and family are welcome.
