Billy Jean was a longtime member and volunteer of the Brackenridge Hospital Auxiliary, Austin Women's Club, and the Next-to-New Shop, clocking hundreds of hours yearly. She was a fifty-year member of Daughters of the Nile, Ruh Neb Temple No.64 where she was Past Queen and member of the Ruh Neb Drill Patrol.
She loved collecting antiques, and when her house got too full, she opened her own shop, Jatabi's Collectibles. Her other hobby was travel, and she went on many trips and tours in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Billy Jean is survived by her daughter, Julianne Mayfield and two grandsons, Nathan Snyder and Nicholas Snyder; her son, William Tarleton Mayfield, III, and his wife, Jill and two granddaughters, Alyssa and Lindsay all of Austin; and her "other" daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jerry Hixson of South Fork, Colorado; many, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Her husband, W. T. Mayfield, her sister, Helen Ulit Twidwell, and her parents preceded her in death.
The family would like to express their thanks to all of the wonderful staff at Southern Hospitality Home and Viola Downey for the kindness and care they provided Billy Jean in the past years and to Odyssey Hospice for their comfort and support in the last days.
A memorial service honoring Billy Jean will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78705.
