

Bobby was born on November 2, 1934, in Anderson, South Carolina to Elbert and Eleanor Smith and was the oldest of eight children.
He married Lucretia Hawkins in January of 1957 and is survived by his wife of 67 years. He has two children, his daughter, Laura, and her husband Rick, and his son Paul, and his wife Lisa. Bobby and Lucretia have four grandchildren, Bobby, Chase, Brittany, and Ansley, and eight great-grandchildren with the ninth due in March.
Bobby worked in the textile mill in Pelzer, South Carolina as a young boy, and in his teenage years went to work full-time in the mill to help support his family.
He enlisted in the United States Army at seventeen years of age and served in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, and the ROK Presidential Unit Commendation.
Bobby was a hard worker and held numerous jobs until ultimately, he developed a career at General Motors, the Lakewood Plant in College Park, Georgia. He retired from GM and opened his own locksmith business which he operated for approximately ten years before selling the business and retiring.
Bobby was proud to celebrate 47 years of sobriety and helped many people on their road to recovery.
Bobby loved reading his Bible, praying, hunting, working in his yard, taking care of his family, and helping people. Bobby was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and watched every game during the last three seasons.
A viewing will be held at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home at 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749 on Saturday evening, February 24th, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM. The funeral will be a military graveside held at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on Monday morning, February 26th at 9:30 AM.
