Bonnie Lee Craig passed away in Austin, Texas on February 2, 2007, in her 95th year. She was born Bonnie Lee Almon to Lewis and Susan Almon on March 7, 1911, near the farming community of Lone Oak in northeast Texas. Her early life was spent on the family farm with her seven brothers and sisters and the values of loyalty, hard work and duty instilled during these years remained as her lifelong traits. She graduated from Wesley College in Greenville in 1930 and, in 1933, married her childhood sweetheart, John B. Craig. Together, they moved their young family to Austin in 1944. In Austin, Bonnie devoted her life to her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, a creative seamstress, an excellent cook, a fastidious homemaker, a soother of hurt feelings, hurt knees and all injuries and maladies treatable by Campho-Phenique, as well as a firm and frequent disciplinarian. Her petite stature and cheery disposition belied a lady of keen resolve and independent spirit. Such attributes served her well through two World Wars, the Great Depression, a Cold War and the upbringing of two sons. She maintained a determined self-reliance throughout her years. Although a very private person, she had many creative interests and was a talented musician, as well as an accomplished artist. She created a great body of work in both pastels and oils, many of which are in family and private collections. Her generous nature and firm hand were a guiding spirit for her family. Bonnie was predeceased by her parents Lewis and Susan Almon and all of her siblings, save her youngest brother Kenneth Almon of Greenville, Texas. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, John B. Craig. She is survived by two sons, John A. Craig and wife Toni, and Mike Craig and wife Debra, all of Austin; and three grandchildren, John A. Craig and Carter C. Craig of Houston, and Hunter H. Craig of Chicago, IL. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Summit at Westlake Hills, both in the Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living areas, as well as to Drs. Teresa Albright, Frank Robinson, Pamela Cowper, and Robert Seiler for their care and compassion. A private family service will be held to celebrate her life. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bonnie's name to the Salvation Army or the charity of their choice. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
