Brian Burnham Newberry passed away peacefully in his home on January 18, 2006. He was surrounded by his family and was sent with their love. Brian was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on March 30, 1945 to Jack Newberry and Helen Burnham Newberry. When he was six months old, he moved to Austin and spent the rest of his life there, raising a family, building a business and supporting his community. He attended Casis Elementary School, O. Henry Junior High School, Stephen F. Austin High School (63) and The College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin (BS 68). While at UT he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, and served the fraternity as Rush Chair, Social Chairman, and Pledge Trainer. He later joined the United States army as an enlisted man and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of the Bachelors Club of Austin, the Coronet Club, and the Admirals Club. He was the President of the Austin High School Football, Baseball, and Basketball Booster Clubs, President of Western Hills Little League, and served on the Board of Directors of the West Austin Youth Association. He was a dedicated member of the Pharmaceutical Foundation Advisory Council at the University of Texas at Austin and former President of the Capital Area Pharmaceutical Association. In 1973 he took over Tarrytown Pharmacy from his father Jack, and operated the store for 33 years, As a pharmacist and trusted confidant, his many customers and friends relied on him and trusted him for advice and counsel. That was one of the things he was most proud of. Over the years, he employed numerous young Austinites and, for many, was their first employer. Many of those employees would later call him the Best Boss Ever. Above all of the deeds and accolades he achieved, he was a loving, genuine, and faithful man. He loved his family and his friends, he loved his customers, and that love was returned to him ten-fold. He rests in the Peace of God now, and we will cherish him always.
