

BUFORD RAY (B.R.) SPEIR B.R. Speir after a long and courageous battle with cancer passed peacefully from this life into Gods care on June 8th, 2005. He was born Buford Ray Speir in Elgin, Texas on New Years Day, 1927. A lifelong resident of Austin, he spent the last three years in Cedar Creek, Texas. He was 78 years of age. B.R. was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Vivian Kelso Speir; parents Seaborn Buford Speir and Veritis Owens Speir; brother Weldon Speir; sister Lucille Speir: and grandchildren Tami Lee Speir and Gregory Ray Speir. He is survived by children Ray Speir of Corinth, Texas, Cathy Speir Kallman of Austin, Nolan Lee Speir of Cedar Creek, and Roger Kim Speir of Cedar Park, Texas; and sister Marie Speir Gay of Austin and three nephews and nieces. B.R. took especial delight in his 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He accepted Christ at and was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. He was a 50-year Mason and a member of Onion Creek Masonic Lodge #220 AF & AM. He was also a member of the Valley of Austin Orient of Texas Scottish Rite Bodies and Ben Hur Shrine Temple of Austin. He also expressed an avid interest in antique automobiles and was a long-time member of the Antique Auto Club of America. B.R. attended Austin High School before enlisting in the United States Merchant Marine in WW II. During the War he made numerous wartime crossings of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans delivering the materials of war. He spent many years in the utility construction business in Austin, including owning his own construction company. He was, however most happy indulging in ranching for the last 22 years. He was the proud owner of the 2-Rock-Ranch in Lytton Springs, Texas. He was a man of many gifted talents showing skill at carpentry, plumbing, electrical, auto mechanics, ranching and trail riding. He loved his family greatly and that love was returned by his family. Friend to a great number of people, he will be missed by all. Pallbearers are Gary Dale Kallman, Marcus Kallman, David Buaas, Terry Strickland, Clifton Speir, Pete Zuniga, John Chapman and Carl Perry. The family will receive visitors at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Friday, June 10th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Pastor David Miller of Grace Baptist Church, Red Rock, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 11th at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78705. Interment at Austin Memorial Park.
