

Calvin Henry Harris of Dripping Springs, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2015 in Austin, Texas at the age of 93 years old. He was born on May 17, 1922 in Winchester, Texas. He graduated from Smithville High School and went on to attend the University of Texas. He then served in the United States Army as 1st Sergeant in the 349th Airdrome Squadron 4th Combat Cargo Group from November 5, 1942 to January 15, 1946. During that time he served in India under the CBI corridor. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater with three battle stars, Victory Medal WWII and the Good Conduct Medal. After he returned home he went to work in the family business, Harris General Merchandise, in Winchester, Texas. On May 11, 1947 he married the love of his life Maurine Sullivan. He retired as Manager of Binswanger Glass Company in Austin, served as Director of First State Bank and was a cattleman and rancher. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy fan.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Luke Hays.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maurine; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ray Hentschel; son, Kent Harris; daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Kirk McGlamery; grandchildren, Shane Poteet (Jean), Marcus Harris, Lisa Hays (Cody), Allison Raesz (Patrick Fleming), Aaron Raesz; great-grandchildren, Weston Poteet, Harrison Poteet, Cadie Hays, Hudson Hays and Tom Fleming.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, August 31, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel.
