

Carla was born on April 15, 1960 in Asuncion, Paraguay to her American diplomat father, Edward B. Frierson and mother Leonor De La Garza- Frierson. Besides living in Paraguay, her family lived in Mexico City D.F., Washington D. C. and eventually moving back to her mother’s home city of Laredo Texas when her father passed away.
Carla proudly attended The University of Texas at Austin. An adventuresome soul, she became a foreign exchange student in Florence, Italy where she studied and worked at a graphic design studio and experienced a truly wonderful life. She completed her studies at U.T. earning a B.A. in Communications. She settled in southern California and continued her career in graphic design, where she met and married her husband, Kevin Schmissrauter. She moved back to Austin in 2013 as her M.S. progressed.
Besides spending time with her family and friends, Carla was passionate about travel, photography, art, her pet dog, history, and people. Carla was a proud member of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a bright, charismatic and energetic personality and was known for her ability to sense what people needed and give of herself. She touched many lives with her generosity, positivity and zeal for life. She truly left an indelible impression on friends around the world. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all wonderful Caregivers especially Connie McDonald, Doctors, especially Dr. Greg Thaera, Nurses and Magnolia Hospice for their loving support and care..
Carla is survived by her husband, Kevin Keith Schmissrauter, her sister, Leonor B. Frierson- Stroud M.D., her brother-in-law David Stroud and their children, David Stroud Jr. and his family and Jennifer Stroud Holler and her family, Carla’s brother, Edward B. Frierson, Jr. and sister-in-law, Debra A. Frierson, and their children, Olivia V. Frierson and James B. Frierson and her Great Uncle A. C. De La Garza, Jr. and his wife Edna and their boys A. C., Pepe, Jaime, Raul and Carla’s sister-in-law Lauri Lee Schmissrauter and her son, Dylan Schmissrauter and many other uncles and cousins.
There will be a visitation at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home 3125 North Lamar Blvd. Austin Texas on Sunday December 19th at 2:00 pm with a Rosary prayer at 3:00 pm.
Services will be at St. Theresa Catholic Church 4311 Small Drive Austin Texas at 10:00am Monday December 20th. Carla will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Laredo, Texas, along-side her loving parents and grandparents on Tuesday December 21st at 11:00 am.
