Carla Morrine Trapp

Carla was born on March 19, 1940 in upstate New York. Her father John was a lifelong inspiration to her, with a clever wit and noble character, and there were countless entertaining stories of the two of them creating mischief together. Carla had a magnetic personality and prided herself on being one of a kind. She grew up in Jackson, TN and lived most of her adult life in Dallas, TX, with a few years in Ruidoso, NM. During the course of her life Carla had various professional roles, but always found creative expression through artwork, writing, and her flair for fashion. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and founded a toffee company: Sweet Trapp Toffee, in 1998, which she pursued jointly with youngest daughter Paula Trapp-Duke through 2014. Carla spent her final years in Austin, Texas near her grandchildren and oldest daughter Laura Burton. Carla will forever be remembered for her clever wit, creativity, and a shining smile that could bring joy to even the toughest of circumstances. That joyful spark served her well through troubled times, and was a comfort for all who loved her.

Carla is survived by daughters Laura and Paula and their husbands David and Michael (daughter Linda preceded her in death) and seven grandchildren (Jordan, Josh, Claire, Jimmy, David, Corey, and Codey).

Carla was married to her life-long love, Howard Sutton, and is survived by family on his side: step-daughter Suzi and her husband Matthew (step-daughter Lisa preceded her in death) and 9 step grand-children.

Carla met Howard in 1975 after her first marriage, and they courted off & on over the years until finally joining in matrimony on April 9th, 2005. Late in life they loved and supported one another through health challenges such as Dementia, Parkinson’s, and Carla’s traumatic head injury in 2017. Their journeys ended gracefully and lovingly at The Auberge Memory Care near Austin, TX. Carla passed peacefully on November 20th, holding hands with her two daughters, and Howard died in his sleep just two weeks later. Family & friends believe their souls are loving & comforting one another still, in a new and beautiful home beyond our imaginations.

A Celebration of Life for both Carla and Howard will be held on January 11, 2020, from 2 – 4:30pm at the Delaney Vineyard in Grapevine, TX.
