Carmen Anna Schmidt, 91 a devoted and extremely talented mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother entered into eternal rest with her Lord on January, 20, 2012 in Cedar Park, TX.
Carmen was born August 14, 1920, the oldest of seven children, to the late Joseph and Eleanor (Anhalt) Bolz in the township of Schleswig, WI. She grew up and worked in a farming community. She met Melvin the love of her life on Valentine’s Day 1940 and married him on the 3rd of May, 1941 in Kiel, WI. They raised their two daughters in Milwaukee, WI. Carmen was a very talented and diversified seamstress. She sewed all her clothes, daughter’s clothes, made hats, quilts, upholstery work, drapes, crafts, ornaments, wedding attire and grew African Violets. Carmen was an excellent cook who relished preparing meals for large gatherings. Christmas was her favorite time of the year decorating the tree with handmade ornaments and making dozens of a variety of Christmas cookies. Carmen and her husband moved to Spring, TX in 1979. Carmen loved to be with people and during the years following she worked as a Mary Kay Consultant, in retail and then as a greeter at Walmart until retiring at the age of 84.
Left to mourn her passing and celebration of her life are her two daughters, Karen Cox and her husband Franklin of Tomball, TX and Mary Mallinger and her husband Thomas of Cedar Park, TX. Also seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step-great grandsons and one great-great grandson, John and Kelly Mallinger (Miles and Dora), James and Luci Mallinger (Michael, [Jacob] and Rachael-Anne Mallinger), Patrick Mallinger (Zachary and Jacob), Jeanette (Cox) Lawson and Jonathan (Taylor, Tyler, Travis), Douglas Cox, Christy Mallinger and Daniel and Kimberly Mallinger (Marissa and Mia). She is also survived by four siblings, Frank and Eileen Bolz, Jerome and Martha Bolz, Marion (Bolz) and Art Fannin and Frederick and Delores Bolz and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; sister, June; brother, Joseph and grandson, Allan.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. followed by visitation prior to Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10205. An Inurnment will follow in the Columbarium at St. Thomas More.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. C. Stewart as well as the caregivers at Cedar Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center and Odyssey Hospice. Contributions in her honor may be made to Odyssey Hospice of Austin.
