Carol Hanz Nowicki, 60, passed away unexpectedly November 3, 2010, at her home in Austin. She was born February 13, 1950, in Plattsburgh, NY to Vernon and Gertrude Hanz. She spent her early years in New York, moving to Texas when she was about 12. Carol graduated from McCallum High School in Austin and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.
Carol had a long career working as a programmer and analyst for the State of Texas as both a state employee and a contractor. She worked for many agencies including the Dept. of Human Welfare, the Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Workforce Commission and the State Comptroller’s office. Her problem solving abilities and diverse skills were lauded by her colleagues in every position she held.
In her spare time, she loved creating needlepoint compositions, making costumes and clothes for herself and her family, and, most recently, making cherished quilts for friends and family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, John, of Bryan, Texas and Katherine, a junior at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
She is also survived by her sister, Barbara, of Colorado Springs, CO., her father-in-law, John Nowicki, of San Antonio, and her close and dear companion, Dale Reynolds
of Austin. Carol was a loyal friend and leaves behind a multitude of friends, coworkers and acquaintances who will miss her greatly.
Carol was a devoted mother and was rightfully proud of John and Katie. She was an integral part of all their activities from soccer and Indian Guide through high school and college. She welcomed all their friends into her life and this fellowship with her children and their friends were the source of her greatest joy.
