Carolyn A. Chapman died on September 17, 2018, of colorectal cancer, after a long illness. She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Levinson and Lisa Beckerman; her sons in law, Adam Levinson and Robert Pollowitz; her brother Edwin Cultra, and her sister in law Judy Cultra.
Carolyn was born in Nashville, Tennessee and grew up in Union City, Tennessee. She attended the University of Florida, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English. After college, she resided in Hollywood, Florida, Southern California and then eventually moved back to Union City, Tennessee to help out in the Cultra family business and with her aging parents. In 2015, she moved to Buckner Villas Green Ridge community in Austin to be closer to her daughter and son in law.
She held a number of positions prior to retirement, including working as a bookkeeper and a manager of a General Nutrition store. When she returned to Union City, Tennessee, she became the manager of the Cultra Motor Inn and the Biltmore Hotel, which were owned by her family, and she was the co-owner of a minority owned contractor engaged in the highway landscaping business.
She won several awards for the quilts and afghans that she designed and made. She loved cats and enjoyed Sudoku, drawing, painting, reading true crime and mysteries, travel, jazz, blues and rock music and drinking beer.
The funeral will be held Saturday, September 22nd at the Cook-Walden Funeral Home, at 6100 N Lamar Blvd. in Austin, Texas. The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice Austin, www.hospiceaustin.org
