It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Carolyn Caughey "Tootsie" Edenbaum, who was the beloved daughter of Eunice and David Caughey, and cherished wife for 59 years of David Edenbaum, honored mother of Barbara Edenbaum Misle-Freund and Michael J. Edenbaum, of Austin; respected grandmother of Lindsey Morgan Osmani and family, Keely Collin Freund.
Cherished sister to Dr. Irwin and Marilyn Raff and Chuck Caughey. She was aunt to Heather Lavie and husband Dr. Isaac Lavie, of Austin, Stephanie Groswirt and husband David Groswirt of Frisco, TX, and Brian Caughey and wife, Alexis and daughter Mila of New Orleans, LA. Aunt to Michelle Raff Lieberman and husband David and daughter Holly Lieberman. Aunt to Bart Raff and wife Joanie, children Alex and Natalie Raff. Tootsie was also beloved first cousin to Lon and Laurie Werner of Fort Worth and sons, Jeffrey and Jason Werner.
Tootsie was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 8, 1937 and attended Paschal HS, where she excelled as a cellist, and enjoyed tennis and golf. She was awarded a music scholarship to TCU for Cello and later married "the love of her life" David, in 1956, who was employed with IBM. They lived in Fort Worth, San Jose, Kansas City, and Dallas. They retired and began living their dream life on Lake LBJ, near Marble Falls, TX for the last 15 years.
She lived her life with wit, intelligence and above all, kindness. She was part of the Jewish community from early childhood throughout her life. Her deep love and devotion to animals was the essence of who she was. She adored music and relishing the outdoor paradise she created by the lake. She was a deeply caring and non-judgmental person, who spread sunshine and happiness to all she met. Her appreciation of all the sweet simple things life could offer was contagious and a symbol of her "flower child heart". She was the center of her beloved family and never spoke a negative word about her pain filled physical challenges.
A little picture that hangs in their home represents who she is. It is a little girl holding up a dish of seed to feed little birds above. The inscription says: THOSE WHO GIVE, HAVE ALL THINGS.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Dr., Austin. Shiva minyan will be at the home of Barbara Misle Freund and Jeff Freund -- 17735 Reed Park Road, Jonestown, TX at 7:00 pm. For directions call 512-633-8282
A special thanks go out to all the caregivers who helped her journey to peace, but most importantly, to Jammie Cody, who elevates the task of "caregiver" to a whole new level of humanity. Her warm, tender, fun-filled care was a true blessing from God that enabled her to lengthen her last days and months and to enjoy each moment left. She is and always will be a full-fledged member of our family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made in Carolyn's (a"h) loving memory to; The Temple Beth Shalom Youth Scholarship Fund, The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or Williamson County Animal Shelter.
