Candy was born in Walterboro, South Carolina to Dr Collins E Smith and Helen M Smith on March 20. 1943.
Candy retired from the State of Texas. She was very creative and had many hobbies over the years including quilting, creating art to showcase her calligraphy skills and going to estate sales. On Feb 4, 2007, she was re-married to Ken Higgins after nearly 30 years of commitment. She loved their retirement home on Lake Buchanan and especially loved visits from her sons (which affectionately included her son’s friends) and grandchildren, as well as, sunsets with “Kenpa”. She overcame many challenges throughout her lifetime, but never complained. She was the consummate southern lady, strong and independent, with a witty sense of humor. A couple of her favorite sayings were “Be nice” and “Two wrongs don’t make a right”. Whether smooth or rocky waters, she ended every day with an unconditional and reassuring “I Love You”. She is dearly missed.
Candy is survived by her two children, Jeff Kuempel, of Round Rock and wife Shelly, Brian Kuempel, of Salado and wife Joy; three grandchildren Jacob, Sterling and Brady; brothers Jimmy and wife Maja, Hugh and wife Judy, and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial with be held in her honor.
