For a time, she worked as a teacher and the Assistant Director of the First Baptist Church of Oak Hill Child Care Center and later as the Assistant Director of the Westgate Apostolic Church Child Care Center.
Carolyn enjoyed doing things outside of church as well. She had a love for traveling with her family, doing crafts, creating flower arrangements, decorating cakes, sewing, embroidery, reading, and watching Hallmark movies.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Randy and Kim Preslar, Sandra and Cecil Herrin, Vicki and Joey Biddle, and Sharon and Steve Overton; 12 grandchildren and 10 grandchildren-in-law; and 22 great-grandchildren.
