

Born October 25, 1939 in Arcadia, Wisconsin to Benedict Walske M.D. and Mary Lydorf Walske. She earned her nursing degree at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a registered nurse-coordinator of medical and surgical volunteers at Seton Hospital before becoming a dedicated case coordinator for over 35 years at Seton Medical Center.
Carolyn devoted her free time to her husband, children and grandchildren. This included swim meets, dance recitals, athletic events and performances. She loved watching her grandchildren succeed in their chosen activities; she was their biggest fan. Carolyn had a strong, unshakeable faith. She was a long time parishioner at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Benedict and Mary Walske and her brother Ben Walske. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 37 years, C. Dotson Smith: her son Joseph A. Volpe M.D.; her daughter Maria Snow and her husband Mark Snow and their children John and Jennifer; her daughter Kathleen Lee and her husband Richard Lee and their daughter Sydney; and her daughter Lisa Francis and her husband Phil Francis and their children Morgan and Isabella. She is also survived by her children’s father Joseph A. Volpe M.D. and her siblings Mary Louise, Kathleen and David.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 14, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr, Austin, TX.
The family would like to thank the ICU nurses and physicians at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center for their dedication and support. Their loving care and kindness will not be forgotten.
