Cary Troop, Jr., born January 26, 1941 in San Angelo, Texas died July 31, 2021 in Austin, Texas. Cary was the eldest son of Earl C. Troop and Martha Powell Troop, both deceased. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Cynthia Crowell Troop, daughter Alacia Troop Wright, husband Donald and granddaughters Elizabeth and Catherine of Lewisville, North Carolina, son David Crowell Troop of Austin, and daughter Suzanne Troop Durgin, husband Drew and grandsons Drew, Jr., Benjamin and William of Dallas, and by his younger brother Stanley Ross Troop, wife Kathy and son Adam of Plano.
Cary grew up in San Angelo, graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1963, where he majored in finance. Following a tour with the Air Force Reserve, he began his business career in Houston. The desire to remain in Texas led to over fifty years in real estate, beginning in commercial brokerage, which led to his subsequent partnership at Laguarta, Gavrel & Bolin, land partnerships in Houston and Austin, and president of Coldwell Banker’s Texas operations. However, it was raw land for long term investment on the fringes of the metro areas and their growth corridors that were his primary and favored interest, an endeavor that will be carried on by his children. He served as a director at several Texas financial institutions as well as a member of the Urban Land Institute, and the Austin Country Club. He remained in regular contact with friends and business associates in cities throughout the country until his death. He loved the world of business, was an avid reader of historical biographies, and enthusiastically worked on the family genealogy (arriving in Texas in 1850), which was a continuation of a project begun by his father in the early 1970s. His work resulted in a family tree of more than 2,400 identified ancestors tracing back to the 1500s. His favorite avocation, however, were his children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Cary and his family are grateful for the friendship and support over the past fifty years from Jim Gudenrath and Lindsay Sharpe, especially during the last few years.
At his request, his ashes are to be scattered by his children on Lake Austin and the Concho River. Anyone desiring to make a remembrance is encouraged to consider Austin Hospice.
