

Catherine Joan Dearing Day passed away August 22, 2025 at St. David's Medical Center in Round Rock, TX. She was born November 21, 1930 in McKinney, Texas to Olin Clyde Dearing Sr and Nova Lee Harvey Dearing. Catherine had an older brother, Olin Clyde Dearing Jr.
The family settled in Austin in 1940. Catherine attended Austin High School where she played in the band, and then the University of Texas where she was a member of the Strike & Spare (bowling) Club. Her father died of cancer in 1942, and her mother began a career at the Brown Schools in Austin.
She married Jackson Rawlins Day in June 1951 and after a 4 year stint in the United States Navy, they lived in Galveston while attending medical school. They were blessed with four children, Lisa Ann (1955), Brian Franklin (1957), John Rawlins (1961), and Mary Catherine (1963).
In 1968 the family moved to Austin, where Catherine bowled in leagues at Dart Bowl and Highland Lanes well into her 80's, played Mah Jongg regularly and enjoyed all UT sports, especially football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball. She joined St. John's United Methodist Church and was an active member all her life. She was also a member of Zonta International, the Rebecca Boyce Chapter of DAR and a charter member of the Balcones Chapter.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents, brother, husband, daughter Lisa Day Jones and grandson Wyatt Day.
Left to mourn her loss are her son Brian and his wife Lori, her son John and his wife Gail, her daughter Mary, son-in-law Curtis Jones, 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephew.
