

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 15, 1918, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Mary Ellen (Tully) Whalen. She was a graduate of Langley High School. She was married in Pittsburgh, to John J. Mikos on July 19, 1944, and later moved to Chicago in 1952. They raised their family in Highland Park, IL.
Catherine was dedicated to her beloved husband and five children. She had many friends. She enjoyed bowling, bridge, traveling and entertaining. She had a flair for fashion and interior decorating, loved to dance, and used her sewing skills on many of her projects. She also was active in her church, the local women's club, and as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader when her children were growing up.
She is survived by her sister, Geraldine Mc Donald of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by her children; Kathleen Hess and her husband, Jack, of Sandown, NH, Thomas Mikos and his wife, Jenny, of Dayton, OH, Roseann Mikos of Moorpark, CA, Joyce Manske and her husband, Paul, of Lakeway, TX and William Mikos, of Naples, FL. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Marianne Hess Kouchoukos of Nottingham, NH, Thomas Hess of Charlestown, MA, Ross Mikos of Columbus, OH, Katy Mikos Young of Colorado Springs, CO, and Alex Mikos of Greenville, OH. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren; Kevin, Brady, Ryan and Tess Kouchoukos, Ava Hess, and Thomas, Liam and Jonathan Young as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Church of St. Mary's in Lake Forest, Illinois. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, Illinois.
