Cathy was born on April 30, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to David Hope (Anderson) Whiting and Billy Anderson Whiting. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, William E. Kidd Jr. of Austin, Texas; her son, Benjamin Kidd, daughter-in-law, Katherine Alonso, their son, Caleb Alonso-Kidd; her daughter, Rebecca Barnes, son-in-law, Robert Barnes, their children, Jackson and Veronica Barnes. She is also survived by her brother, Mark Whiting, his wife, their children, as well as numerous beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A lifelong Christian and educator, Cathy devoted her career to teaching elementary school children. Education was one of the great passions of her life—not only for the young students in her care, but for everyone she encountered. She was a steadfast advocate for helping others reach important educational milestones, including earning their GED, believing deeply that it is never too late to learn. Her commitment to service extended beyond the classroom through her dedicated work with women’s and homeless ministries, where she offered both practical help and genuine compassion.
Cathy will be remembered for her faith, her generosity, and the lasting difference she made in the lives of so many.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cathy’s memory to Mobile Loaves & Fishes or to Foundation Communities of Austin.
Welcome to my crazy life, I’ll get back with you as soon as I possibly can.
