September 13th 1923 – July 28th, 2017
Charles V. Breakfield Sr. of Austin Texas, received a final family visit on July 28th before comfortably passing away later that evening at his residence at the Brookdale facility in Lakeway, Texas. Charles enjoyed a life of adventure, challenge, and family that fit the mold that many refer to as the “greatest generation”. Adventure and challenge started early for Charles as in 1942, at the age of 19, he entered the US Army. He was selected as an Army Air Corp pilot, initiating a life of adventure and challenge. His career started fast as a Fighter Pilot in WWII, followed by 2 tours in the Korean War as well as 2 additional tours in Viet Nam. In the course of 30 years he went from the enlisted ranks to the officer ranks, from the Army to the Air Force, traveled the US and the World and ultimately reached the rank of Lt. Colonel and serving as a Squadron Commander during the Viet Nam conflict.
Charles met and later married Dorothy Lynn on December 21, 1952. Together they had 3 boys, Charles Jr., John and David. Charles Sr. (“Charlie”) and Dorothy (aka “Dot”) were true partners, and established a healthy balance between the adventures of military life and family. They both enjoyed a passion for family, spending time together, often through outdoor activities like family camping and hunting events. Dorothy passed away in 2014 after almost 62 years of marriage; however, the adventures, travel and family gatherings that extended to their grandchildren, will forever be vivid memories of lives well lived.
Charles Sr. is survived by two sons and their families. Charles V. Breakfield Jr., wife Sandra, and daughters Sara and Rachel. David K. Breakfield and wife Jan, son David “Austin”, and daughter Avery.
The services to celebrate Charles and Dorothy’s lives will be held on August 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Tx.
