Chuck married his wife of 62 years, Bobbye Jean Hicks (deceased) in Carlsbad, New Mexico, April 25, 1959, and they began their life together in Pecos Texas, where Chuck began his career with Southern Union Gas Company (SUGC) as Sales Coordinator. His promotion to Manager of Local Operations took them to Williams, Arizona, where their second daughter, Karen Louise, arrived in June 1962.
In 1963, he received another promotion to Branch Manager (SUGC) in Monahans, Texas. While in Monahans, Chuck participated in Rotary Club, was elected to City Council and served as President of Monahans Chamber of Commerce, as well as being an active member of the Monahans Country Club where he regularly played golf. Chuck’s retirement brought adventure to Chuck and Bobbye’s life through mission trip travel. During his 43-year membership at Westover Hills Church of Christ, Chuck served as Elder for 30 years and served many years “on staff” as Westover’s in-house volunteer Elder. After he experienced his first short-term mission trip to Guyana, South America, Chuck and Bobbye partnered together on many of his 40+ short-term mission trips spanning 17 countries. On one of his many trips, he was arrested and detained in Russia by the KGB while teaching.
In 2004, Chuck began his service on the Board of Directors of Baxter Institute, making many trips to Honduras, and in 2006, he began his service on the Board of Directors of World Bible School.
In his most recent years, Chuck served joyfully and faithfully in Westover Hills’ Pantry Ministry.
Chuck enjoyed playing golf, fishing vacations at Lake Buchanan, and took up tennis lessons after he retired. His love for Bible Scripture and his motto of God-first, Others-second, and Self-last best describes his life.
