Arthur Charles Beall, III, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend has left us to make our own jokes for which we are entirely inadequate. His infectious humor and unwavering candor he takes with him, but a myriad of fond memories remain for us. Never one to relinquish the center stage, he has exited stage right.
Charlie suddenly left this earth to be with his savior on June 7, 2010. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 24, 1953 to Arthur Charles Beall, Jr. and Louise Williams Beall, Charlie was reared in Houston, Texas, where he attended St. John’s School. After a short tenure at Lamar High School, he attended San Jacinto Junior College and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Auburn University with a bachelor’s in Aviation Management. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and enjoyed teaching flying lessons. He then received his JD at the University of Texas Law School in 1977 and practiced criminal and civil law for over thirty years. He cared deeply and was a strong advocate for the rights of children and that care is exemplified in his own daughters. He was President of Zilker Eagle and for thirteen years ran the miniature train in Zilker Park.
An avid golfer and an overall lover of sports, Charlie never missed watching a NASCAR race, a UT football game or a major golf tournament. He was a dedicated softball player for Velikovsky’s Comet, and the camaraderie brought him to the field every Sunday evening for 30 years. He loved sharing his extensive knowledge which he accredited to his daily dose of Jeopardy and enjoyed all music, especially the Beatles. However, no day was complete without a delicious meal. An expert barbequer and steak master, he could easily turn a mundane taco or frozen pizza into a gourmet feast.
Never one to miss an opportunity to make us smile, determined to help the less fortunate, and being the life of a party with his “stand-up” lawyering, Charlie was simply generous to a fault and will be greatly missed by all he encountered. Devoted to his family and priceless to his friends, Charlie never met anyone who could not say they felt a little better simply by being in his presence.
Preceded in death by his parents, he leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Diane Beall; daughters Jennifer of Chicago, Illinois; Ashley of Austin; Erin and husband, Jason Cromleigh and granddaughter Kaelyn of Cedar Creek, Texas; brother Vincent of Austin; and mother Madeline Beall, of Houston, Texas; his canine pals Corki and Shelby; avian TV buddy, Sam; and numerous friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
“We know you’re just passing through the cosmos on your way to Australia.”
