Mrs. Charlotte Alcorn Inniss entered this life on August 7, 1949 as the child of the late George E. Brown and the late Bessie M. Alcorn. Together, Bessie and Charlotte’s stepfather, the late Herschel W. Alcorn, raised Charlotte from birth and was their only child.
Charlotte was born in Augusta, Arkansas, and spent much of her early life in the state of Arkansas. She attended Townsend Park High School, where she graduated with honors. She then went on to attend Arkansas AM&N (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff or UAPB) where she received her undergraduate degree. Shortly after graduation, she began her career in administration in the art department of UAPB and became a staple of the department, supporting the facility, faculty and student needs. She also became a mother and began to grow her family, eventually having three daughters: Tiffany, Heather and Jessica. She then returned to college later in life, relocating to Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin – Stout to obtain her master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation. She then began working at Goodwill Industries in Indianapolis, Indiana before retiring from Southwest Airlines where she was a valued employee for many years.
Charlotte was a believer and lover of God and ensured that her faith remained a priority. She was also a staunch supporter of the community and believed strongly in volunteerism. In her spare time, she attended the YMCA to socialize and exercise. She also enjoyed gardening and would often sit on her patio to admire her flowers. Upon becoming an empty-nester, Charlotte found love later in life with Mr. Sydney Inniss. They married August 29, 2009 and resided together in Austin, Texas. As Charlotte planted her roots in the city of Austin, she enjoyed spending time with Sydney and their beloved dog Rocky.
Charlotte strongly believed in the value of family, including her extended family. She will be remembered for her free-spirited demeanor, impressive sense of fashion, and as a source of inspirational advice. She was extremely generous and loved to find thoughtful gifts and tokens of appreciation to share with family and friends.
