Cheryl Scott Ginn, born May 10, 1944 in Weimar, Texas, died March 4, 2010 in Austin, Texas. She is survived by husband I. Michael Ginn, and her two sons Matthew Bradley and Graham Scott. Cheryl had a penchant for interior design and a zest for life that was matched only by her desire to dance and enjoy Texas blues. A consummate Texan through and through, Cheryl was indicative of the southern Texas beauty. She was raised and educated along the Colorado River in Columbus, Texas by her mother Vida Potthast (dec) and her stepfather Alfred Reimers (dec). She had two brothers, Hal Scott (dec) and Royce Reimers (dec). Cheryl was a phenomenal swimmer at the national level and was a cheerleader and straight "A" student. As a result of her talents and natural long-legged beauty she was voted Miss Austin Aqua Festival in 1963 followed by being voted Miss South Texas the same year. Never the one to rest on her laurels, Cheryl moved to Houston to pursue life in the big city in 1964 where she was employed as secretary to Harris County Judge Bill Elliot. Two years later in 1967, she met her future husband. They stayed married for 42 years...Cheryl was a devoted housewife, homemaker and a wonderful mother who always provided the solution to illness or pain with a back rub or words of empathy and understanding, and always someone who saw the good in life. She found the value for a child in Legos and PBS, she was always pushing her children to become multi-dimensional and well-rounded. She was a tireless member of the Houston Junior Women's League and a proud volunteer of the Ronald McDonald House in Houston. Always the perfectionist, she pursued a degree in architecture at the University of Houston. She was always one to upstage the architect who was drafting plans for yet another house and was ultimately driven by her own creativity and her inner desire to create something amazing out of ordinary materials. She was a talent beyond measure outside of the "professional market". A partner in life as much as a devoted friend to all who knew her, Cheryl followed the path of exploration as soon as Mike's career came to an eventual end. They both traveled extensively and found love in collecting art and finding joy in the aesthetic beauty of nature and architecture. They moved to San Antonio, Texas then found a peaceful aerie in the high desert of Santa Fe, New Mexico before finally residing in Lakeway, Texas. Cheryl fell ill in 2007 to frontotemporal dementia, a rapid, debilitating mental disease for which there is no cure. Mike cared for her at home until December 2009. Mike and her sons wish to thank the staff of The Summit of Lakeway for their loving care and the Christopher House Hospice of Austin facility during Cheryl's final days. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel.
