OBITUARY
Chris R. Doles
February 11, 1966 – July 25, 2013
On July 25, 2013, the life of Christopher Ray Doles tragically ended in a car accident while he was on his way to work. Chris was born on February 11, 1966 in Nashville, Arkansas and graduated from Snyder High School in 1984. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and attended Western Texas College and East Texas Baptist University. He joined the Waco Police Department in January of 1990 and served the community for nearly 20 years. He was a supervisor for 8 years, a member of SWAT for 8 years, and a SWAT sergeant for 5 years. He was honored to coordinate Dignitary Protection for President George W. Bush and other public officials. While working at that department, Chris earned his Master Peace Officer license and became a TCLEOSE Instructor in 2006. He was voted Most Professional Supervisor by his peers in 2001 at the International Law Enforcement Academy. Chris had over 3,000 hours of training and received numerous awards and certificates including Certificates of Training from the Department of Homeland Security Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration, National White Collar Crime Center, AGTX-Counterdrug Task Force Special Operations Detachment-Unity, and the Texas Tactical Police Officers Association. He received Certificates of Completion from Combat Shooting and Tactics, Armor Training Academy for Specialty Impact Munitions and Distraction Devices, National Academy for Professional Driving, Mobile Forensics, Inc., and AccessData. He also received a Certificate of Achievement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Institute in 2007. He was then able to serve the City of Jarrell from December 2010 to July 2011. Chris began working for the Lakeway Police Department on July 25, 2011. He started as a patrol officer, quickly became a team leader, and was promoted to sergeant in September of 2012. He enjoyed supervising and training other officers and strived to maintain a level of professionalism. He received the Chief’s Recognition Award in 2011, the Meritorious Unit Citation and the Meritorious Service Medal in December of 2012. Chris was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother with an incredibly giving personality. He is survived by his wife, Kristin Doles, his four children, Jordan Miller, Kendall Doles, Caleb Doles, and Colin Doles, his granddaughter Evi Grace Miller, and his two sisters, Donna Doles and Sherry Johnson. Chris made an impact on everyone he met and genuinely cared for others, whether he was their supervisor, co-worker, friend, family member or simply a stranger. The Doles family would like to thank their friends, family, and the law enforcement community for their support and prayers during this tragic time. Although our hearts are heavy, we celebrate knowing he is in heaven.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening, on Sunday, the 28th of July 2013, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas.

Dear Doles Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time. Chris made a big impression on me when he visited my father in the hospital. He greeted me with a big hug at my father's visitation and funeral the next week. We were so saddened to hear of his passing. Although I only met him a couple of times, I could tell he was a great guy who will be missed by all.
Sincerely,
Klint Rhodes

I have known Chris since we were Juniors in High School. He was my best friend and best man at my wedding. Chris lived with me and my family even after I got married. My Parents loved him and treated him like a Son. He had a hard childhood, but he was a fighter and never let it get him down. As we got older and had families we got busy taking care of them. Chris moved to Waco for better opportunities. We lost touch, but I thought of him often and even visited a few times over the years. When I heard of his death my heart was heavy for him and his family. You never know how much someone touches your life till they are gone. I will miss you old friend. RIP

Marchelle, Kyle, Meredith and I extend our deepest sympathy to Chris's family at this time of loss. The Little League years in Waco which we shared with you represented a special time. Chris and I competed hard against each other and coached together at other times. Chris's passion for life, desire to help/teach others, love for his family and baseball were ever present and a testimony to others. May God's peace sustain you.

Although I did not know Chris well, I live in the Lakeway community and saw him on numerous occasions. One, in particular, was when he tried a hot yoga class. He was so funny, nice, and I could tell he was a kind man. My heart goes out to his family. Please know that his service to our community will forever be remembered and I am very thankful for men like him who put themselves in harms way in order to protect us. May God be with you.

We knew Chris when he worked for us the summer of 1984 at Brookhaven Camp & Conference Center north of Tyler, TX. We were delighted to see some pictures of that summer in the portfolio of his life. His bright smile and imitation of John Wayne, "Howdy Pilgrim," added so much humor to the hard work of a summer youth camp. We were "Papa Bear" and "Mama Bear" to him ... and we knew him by his camp nickname - "Doober." We had not seen him for years, but were so saddened when we learned of his untimely death. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family. He was a great guy, and we loved him. We shall look forward to the time when we will laugh and praise the Lord again together.

Chris Doles, I remember the first time that I met you...sitting in the squad room stone-faced and with quiet reserve. I thought, this guy is mean, but you were far from that. I have since changed my thoughts, your "Quietness" spoke volumes in your love for your family and in your dedication to the Lakeway PD and it's citizens. You were an officer of great integrity and a great man. I have gained so much from your knowledge, your respect and values made you a great husband, officer, friend and Man. I find comfort in knowing that you are looking down on your family and the Lakeway PD. Not only were you my friend but you were my brother, You, Chris Doles will be greatly missed but NEVER Forgotten. R.I.P. I Love You My Brother, God Speed...

Chris was a very good man in so many ways. Though he could be rough around the edges when you first meet him if you have him the chance you found that he was truly a rose. I will miss our deep conversations about God, family and work. I will always look forward to the day we will be able to laugh again in the presence of our Lord in Heaven!!
