Christeen Roberts Leigon Our beloved Christeen Roberts passed away January 8th. She was born at Morgan Mill, Texas on a spring day (April 30, 1919) to the late John L. Roberts and Maude Vandevier. She lived a full life displaying and sharing her strength, love, charm, and grace. While still a teenager she guided and supported her father and young brother through the difficult times of The Depression. She was well known and respected by the community in which she grew up and several women gladly befriended this vibrant, young woman who displayed such grace in difficult times. After returning to Stephenville in 1940 from college in Houston, she began dating her life-long love, Charles Leigon, and married him immediately upon his return from WWII, embarking upon their career with the Air Force for 32 years. While she had many accomplishments and recognitions afforded her over her life, she was most proud of her family: supporting and aiding Charles in his military career through her leadership and involvement as an officer's wife; raising two cherished children, Charles Russell and Leslie Ann, who loved and admired her in so many ways; and giving many hours of help and support for the dignity and love of many family members towards the end of their lives. Christeen continually thought of how to help her grandchildren and never ceased to think about their futures. She was a beacon of love to all of us. She had unusually good taste in style and color and enjoyed collecting paintings, books, rugs, and furniture. While she lived in Hawaii she found new passions in working with the beautiful flowers of the islands and traveling in the Orient with Charles. They made several new lifetime friends during this time. In retirement she continued to enjoy with Charles the pleasure of close family, good friends, and continued trips to her favorite places across the U.S., including regular visits back to the islands. Christeen retained her beauty and charm with the years. She had a special warmth that attracted friends who came to love her for her sweetness, friendliness and beautiful smile. She had the gift of seeing the good in each person she ever met and never was judgmental of anyone. Her sudden leaving has devastated her family, friends and those who knew her. She had recently celebrated with Charles their 63rd wedding anniversary. Her life was a celebration of day-to-day joys of the family and friends she loved—she was such an inspiration to them. This dear, wonderful lady, so beloved by all who knew her, will always be remembered and sorely missed, but never forgotten. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Charles Leigon, USAF retired, son Charles Russell, his wife Sharon and grandchildren Charles Ryan and Allison Renee of Lake Jackson, Tx., and daughter Leslie of Austin, Tx.. Special appreciation is extended to the wonderful and caring staff at Westminster Manor and a very special friend and companion, Inja Thorn of Finland. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Westminster Manor Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2008 at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
