Clarence Harold Petty, Jr. died on October 17, 2006, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit. Clarence was born in Austin, Texas on June 17, 1940 to Clarence Harold and Lois Miller Petty, and resided here all of his life. Clarence graduated from Austin High School and soon thereafter began a long association with local grocery chains, beginning with Rylanders in Cassis Village to Tom Thumb and, finally, to Albertsons North, where he was employed until his death. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, and his parents. He is survived by his brother, Michael Petty of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Susan Petty Mills and husband, W. O. Mills, Jr. of Pandale, Texas; and sister, Patricia Petty of Lockhart, Texas. Also surviving him are his nieces and nephews: Michael Petty, Jr. of Los Angeles, California; Richard Petty of Fort Worth; Tammy Lane of Fort Worth; Ginger Mills of Austin; Cindy Mills Mehaffey and husband, Josh Mehaffey, of Hamilton; Joe Carrington IV and wife, Elaine, of Lorena; Will Stone of Walburg; and Steven Stone of Luling, as well as several great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Clarences Albertsons family, friends, and associates for their unending love, support, and friendship over the years and especially in these last months. You are what kept him fighting and he loved you all. Thank you to Doctors David George, Jeffrey Zapalac, Shannon Cox, and Sheldon Markowitz for their care and professionalism throughout this journey, and to Angela and Alice of Hospice Austin for all of their loving support and for helping Clarence to remain at home as long as possible. Thanks also to Heart to Heart Hospice and Duval Gardens for making his final days as comfortable as possible. Graveside services will be held on October 20, 2006, at 2:30 p.m., at Austin Memorial Park on Hancock Drive in Austin, Texas. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in remembrance of Clarence to Hospice Austin, Heart to Heart Hospice, or the charity of your choice. Please think of Clarence with fondness, not sadness. He lived his life with joy and this is how he would have wanted to be remembered. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
