

Clarence Taylor Welborn, 89, a native of Austin, passed away November 19, 2015. He was born December 26, 1925 to Jeff D. and Elsie P. Welborn. He attended Austin Public Schools and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1943 and entered the University of Texas. He joined the air corps reserve in 1943 and was called to active duty in '44 and qualified as an Aviation Cadet but the war ended before he got any real flying in. He was discharged from the Air Corps in Oct.'45.
He graduated from the University of Texas with a BA in math and a minor in engineering. He worked for the Water Resources Division of the US Geological Survey as a hydraulic engineer/hydrologist for 37 years and retired in 1985. In 1974 he was elected president of the Austin chapter of the American Society Civil Engineers. He has been a member of the Capitol Rod and Gun Club since 1958. He loved the outdoors. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and flying. He had a pilots license before he had a drivers license.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Frankie Lindsey and Louise Ryland, the mother of his children, Evelyn Welborn, and grandson, Will T Goodwin.
He is survived by his wife Thelma(Dixie) D. Mandaville; his daughters Frances Goodwin, Beverly MacCarty, and Deborah Welborn; stepchildren, Marilyn Souther, Mike Mandaville, Allan Mandaville Sarah Malone, and the Reverend Brice Mandaville; his grandson, Jesse, and great-grandson, Alex.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22nd at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N Lamar. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 10063 Cypress Mill Rd. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at White Rock Cemetery in Bee Cave.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the scholarship fund of the Capitol Rod and Gun or favorite charity.
