Clemencia Solar Harrison Maeser was born to the late John and Mary Solar in Houston, Texas on November 22, 1929. Clemencia was active in her church community and spent time translating and working in the church pantry to help others. She was always moved by the needs of others and continued her volunteer work through the years. She was truly a godly woman who had a generous spirit, abundance of compassion and shared her faith and love of Christ Jesus with everyone.
Clemencia was blessed with a loving family of six brothers and sisters (Johnny, Caroline, Gloria, Yolanda, Olga, and Henry). Peter Litius married her mother, Mary, and played an important role in her life as a young woman growing up. She was a majorette for The Milby High School Buffalos and worked in retail in her spare time. She took great pride in representing Milby High School and enjoyed the excitement of working at Houston’s first major department store, Foleys.
In 1949, Clemencia married Terrance Allen Harrison in Houston, Texas. “Terry” was a captain of a merchant marine vessel and traveled extensively. They had five children together and Clemencia embarked on being a full-time mom while he was away at sea. In 1963, Terry was offered a job that would enable them to live together as a family in Saudi Arabia. So, Clemencia packed the children up, drove to New York City, and boarded a Dutch passenger freighter to travel to their new home. They lived there for five years and took advantage of traveling and exploring different countries. As a mother, she always wanted her children to see and experience the world and other cultures. They returned to the United States in 1968. They were married until Terry’s death in 1994.
In 1999, Clemencia married Robert Maeser, who she shared traveling, cooking, teaching, gardening, and volunteer work together. They lived in Baytown and enjoyed the water and both of their families until his death in 2012. Clemencia resided in Baytown and loved being a member of the Baytown Garden Club. In 2014, she moved to Austin, a city she always loved, to be closer to her children.
Clemencia enjoyed spending time with her children Eric Harrison (and wife Debbie), Terry English (and husband Larry), Brenda Wendel, Shannon Garner (and husband Robert), and Darrell Harrison. She loved being a grandmother and was so proud of her grandchildren Courtney, Lauren, Taylor, Erin, Ty, Adralyn, TJ, and Leila. She especially loved babies, so she was thrilled when great grandchildren, Cruz, Dak, Gabriella, Grey, Beckett and Stevie came into the world. Clemencia was most content when she was surrounded by those she loved and those who loved her. She is survived by all her children and her youngest brother, Henry Solar who always made her laugh.
Clemencia lived a rich and full life and has now risen to be with Jesus Christ, her Savior. She has been made whole….the person God shaped and blessed us with as our mother. She has been greeted by our King, her mother, father, her brothers, sisters, and friends from every part of her life. She left this world with a life well lived, loved by so many and a lasting legacy. We will miss her but have so much to honor, remember, and celebrate.
