
Clifford Earl Strang, Sr, has gone from this life to the next. He passed away at home on July 29, 2006 with his beloved wife, Verda Louise Guengerich Strang, by his side. Mr. Strang is survived by his wife, Verda, and his children Garland Strang, Clifford Earl Strang, Jr, David Vernon Strang, and Marta Ellen Strang Young, as well as 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Strang is also survived by his brother William Richard Gerald Strang and his sister Dori Strang Pharris. Mr. Strang was born August 14, 1917 to parents Stella and Earl Strang in South Brewer, Maine. He grew up learning how to live off the land in the Maine woods, one of 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Mr. Strang began his career in 1942, by joining the Army Air Force. He served as a tail gunner, and was shot down over Germany on his 13th mission. He spent 19 difficult months, as a prisoner of war, in Stalig 17B. He was then force marched for one month to the French border, where he was liberated to the Americans. Mr. Strang was awarded 2 Purple Hearts for his service to his country. In 1946, Mr. Strang began work for The Atomic Energy Commission in Physical Security in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He was present during testing of the H-bomb at the Anatawaki atoll and Christmas Island. In 1962, Mr. Strang moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida, to work in the physical security force for NASA. He retired 19 years later, having risen to the rank of an assistant to the Chief of Security. Mr. Strang married Verda Louise Guengerich on September 30, 1948. Upon retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Strang moved to Austin, TX. Throughout his life, Mr. Strang loved golf, and made many friends through this activity. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 14, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5201 Convict Hill Road, Austin, Texas. All friends and family welcome.
