Conrad Merlain Newsom

Conrad(Fritz) Newsom passed away on February 7, 2022 at his home in The Hills, Texas at the age of 87. Fritz was loved and adored by all and is survived by his wife Carole, sons Scott, Steve Newsom and wife Catherine of Austin. Fritz had 4 stepchildren, Vicki, Lincoln and wife Tina, Jefferson and wife Rosalina, and David Miller. Fritz cherished his 10 grandchildren, Mary Kate, Schuyler, Sarah, Scotty, Danielle, Cameron, Skyler, Jackson, Rachel and Reaves. He was blessed with 2 great grandchildren, Terrah and Dierdra. He is also survived by his brother Don of Des Moines.

Fritz attended school in Des Moines, graduating from Roosevelt High in 1953, and earning a BA from Drake University in 1957. At Drake, Fritz was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the ROTC. After college, Fritz entered into a life of service to our country through his service in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1960 with the rank of Captain.

Fritz retired from the Senior Executive Service of the US Government and serving as Regional Administrator of the GSA, Director of the National Computer Center, and Director of the National Finance Center in New Orleans, La. He retired to Austin, Texas in 1996.

Fritz will be remembered by all for his kindness, wisdom, patience, and gentle demeanor. He lived his life with selflessness and determination to help others. His impact on the lives around him will never be forgotten.

Fritz accumulated numerous awards and commendations throughout his life of service, but none he valued more than the simple act of helping others achieve their hopes and dreams.

A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at Lakeway Church in Lakeway, Texas on February 25, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnels to Towers foundation.
