Cordelia San Miguel Ruiz of Austin, Texas was born on October 28, 1920 to Herminia and Guadalupe San Miguel, and passed away peacefully on June 24, 2021 at the age of 100. "Cordie", as she was so affectionately known, was the first of 8 children and grew up in the Central Texas area.
Cordie married her beloved Elias Ruiz on December 7, 1939 and cherished a 61-year marriage until he passed in 2000. She was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Austin, TX for over 75 years, serving in numerous roles including Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, and Recording Secretary. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was known for being humble, thoughtful, fun-loving and sincere. She was also known for her remarkable record-keeping and perfect penmanship. Not a holiday, celebration or milestone would go by without getting a very timely card in the mail from Cordie! She was extremely hospitable and her tacos were the best. She would so lovingly serve them to her family and guests, and keep them coming hot off the stove until you had to tell her to stop. Cordie was employed for 24 years as an Administrative and Medical Assistant to several Physicians in Austin, then finished her career as a Medical Claims Specialist until her retirement in 1995.
Cordie is survived by her siblings George San Miguel of San Antonio, Berta San Miguel of Laguna Beach CA, and Josephine Perez of San Antonio; sons Samuel (Yolanda), and Ruben (Lydia); grandchildren Rene Ruiz, Ronald Ruiz (Kim), Randall Ruiz (Sharon), Laura Terán (Edward); and great-grandchildren Natalie, Raymond Julian, Marlena, Mia, Jessica, Juliet, Vincent, Victoria, Analisa and Alexandra. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to sincerely thank all the caregivers at Round Rock Assisted Living and Journey of Life Hospice who so lovingly and attentively cared for Cordie.
