

Courtenay Corwin Browning, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Austin surrounded by her children Wednesday, April 8th, 2015. Born on April 3rd, 1932 in Austin, Texas to Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Orville Corwin, Junior, "Toni", as she was affectionately named by her sister, grew up in Austin and Corpus Christi, Texas. Courtenay had a deep, quiet faith and was an inspiration to all that loved and respected her indomitable spirit and vivacious nature.
Courtenay spent many wonderful summers at Camp Mystic for Girls in Hunt, Texas and graduated from Austin High School where she was a member of the Hypatians and the National Honor Society. Courtenay went on to attend The University of Texas as a member of the Plan II Honors Program and graduated from The University of Arizona. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta. After her marriage in 1954, Courtenay lived in Orléans, France where her son, Christopher was born. She returned to Tucson, Arizona where she celebrated the birth of her two daughters, Logan & Courtenay. Toni returned to Austin and attended the University of Texas Law School where she earned her Doctor of Juris Prudence in 1976. Toni worked as an attorney for the Texas Workforce Commission and served as the Head of Commission Appeals until she retired in 2007.
Toni was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild, The Junior League of Tucson and Austin, and the Settlement Club of Austin.
Courtenay is preceded in death by her loving parents, Gladys Hufstutler Corwin and Joseph Orville Corwin, Junior, and her sister, Joan Corwin Williams. She is survived by her children, The Honorable Christopher Corwin Browning and his wife Laury Behan Browning of Tucson, Arizona; her daughter, Logan Browning Ames and her husband Eugene Leroy Ames, III, of San Antonio, Texas; and her daughter, Courtenay Browning Butler and her husband Richard Carroll Butler, of Houston, Texas. She will also be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren, Logan Gayle Browning, Corwin Young Ames and his wife, Abbey Matteson Ames, Christopher Corwin Browning, Junior, Asa Eugene Ames and his fiancé, Brooke Hoffpauir, Emma Grace Butler, & William Shaw Butler. Courtenay is also survived by her sister, Mary Robin Corwin Guthrie, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, her two cousins, Samuel Vaughan Stone, Junior, of Austin, Texas and Michael Asa Stone and his wife Carolyn Williams Stone of Charlottesville, Virginia, many devoted nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends.
A graveside service honoring the life of Courtenay Corwin Browning will be officiated by her priest and friend, David Boyd on Sunday, April 26th at 2:00 p.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
