Our wonderful dad, Cully Spivey Ellis passed away on July 16, 2015 at the age of 88 after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by children, Mike and Becky Ellis, Trisha and Ed Abrahamson, grandchildren Brandon Ellis & Amanda Cloud, Matthew Abrahamson, Christopher and Jenna Ellis, Andrew Abrahamson & Celeste Collier, great- grandchild Leah Ellis, niece Susan Ramirez, sister-in-law Estelle Ellis, and numerous nephews and nieces. He is preceded by his beloved wife, Jeanne Armstrong Ellis of 59 years.
Cully graduated from Gaston High School in Joinerville, TX, served in the U.S. Army in World War II in northern Italy in the ski patrol, graduated from Kilgore College with a degree in Watchmaking. He worked for Kruger Jewelry in Downtown Austin for 20 years and later operated his own jewelry store. Never really retired, he continued working from his home office, greeting and visiting with loyal clientele for the rest of his life. Cully was active in several organizations including: Texas Watchmakers Association, Austin Watchmakers Guild, and North Central Austin Caregivers.
Cully was a very special man who touched many lives with his giving heart and generous and playful spirit. He was a kind, gentle man always seeing the positive in people. He befriended almost everyone he met, never meeting a stranger, truly a man who lived in the moment. He was a role model, teacher, and mentor to his children and many others. He and mom were actively involved in ministries and their church, Northwest Baptist Church for his entire adult life. Cully was an active retiree with many travels from Alaska to the Caribbean and all points of the continent and was an avid University of Texas Baseball fan.
Dad was a devoted husband to his beautiful wife and partner, Jeanne and dedicated himself to her care during her final years. His legacy of love and commitment to her will be cherished by his family forever.
Cully will be remembered as a gentle man of unwavering faith, loyal husband, loving father, loyal friend, proud grand and great grandfather. We have been blessed by his unconditional love and can only hope to live up to his example.
