Curtis Louis Peschke, of Austin, passed away May 29, 2020 after a long battle with chronic lung disease and dementia. Born November 9, 1926 to Louis Herman and Louise Bertha Brugdorf Peschke on the family farm in Grassyville, Texas and attended school in Paige. Curtis grew up with a love of working with his hands and gardening. Curtis enlisted in the Army and served in post-war Germany with the military police guarding motor pools. After returning to Grassyville he married Margaret Alvina Wusterhausen on November 27, 1949, and their union was blessed with three children, Kenneth, Kathy, and Janice.
Moving to Austin in 1955, he worked at the Austin Power Plant before moving to the University of Texas power plant in 1957. A skilled carpenter and painter Curtis built the home in north Austin where the family lived for 30 years, turning most of the back yard into a vegetable garden, which he lovingly tended, providing his family with fresh vegetables for many years. Curtis and Margaret were active members of St. Marks United Methodist Church for over 50 years. After retirement, Curtis and Margaret enjoyed traveling with AARP groups and by themselves in their travel trailer.
Predeceased by his parent’s, his brother Calvin, and his loving wife Margaret. Curtis is survived by his sister Dorothy Herzer, his children Kenneth Peschke, Kathy Reinhart and her husband, Steve, and Janice Slager and her husband, Fred; grandchildren Eric Reinhart, Michelle Rehm and her husband Pat, Brian Peschke and his wife Dianna, and Pam Peschke Barosh, and five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff of Pecan Ridge Memory Care Center and Integrative Home Health during Curtis’ stay at Pecan Ridge.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Weed-Corley-Fish North Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
