Dain Paul Whitworth Jr. passed away on October 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion, and an unwavering willingness to help others.
Dain/Paul was the devoted son of Aynn Miller Whitworth and Dain Paul Whitworth Sr., and the loving brother of his sister, Lisa Whitworth. He is survived by his father, sister, stepfamily, extended family, friends, and his dog Duchess. He was preceded in death by his mother, his grandparents, and his stepmother.
Dain graduated from Westlake High School, then attended Texas Tech University, where he joined the United States Marine Corps, and later graduated from Texas State University with a degree in English. He was activated and served honorably during Operation Desert Storm, answering the call to serve his country with dedication and pride.
Following his military service, Dain combined his love of travel with his passion for education, teaching English in South Korea. His desire to make a difference in the lives of others eventually led him to a career with the Texas Veterans Commission, where he worked diligently to support fellow veterans and help others who have served our country.
Dain’s heart was as big as his presence. He was a devoted dog dad and animal lover, and a caring gentle giant always ready to lend a helping hand. His generosity, loyalty, and genuine compassion touched countless lives. Whether serving his country, supporting fellow veterans, or caring for those who could not care for themselves, Dain lived with a deep sense of purpose and a remarkable capacity for love. He enjoyed a good cigar, a craft beer or fine whiskey, and a competitive game of billiards.
He leaves behind a lasting impact on the people and animals whose lives he touched. His presence, kindness, and willingness to do whatever was needed will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A service to honor and celebrate Dain’s life will be held on October 30, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at:
Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dain’s honor may be made to MD Anderson or Austin Pets Alive!, reflecting his compassion for others and animals.
