David had a long and distinguished first career serving in the United States Air Force for 24 years. He traveled the world. Fortuitously, David met his beautiful wife, Margaret, while stationed in England. After retiring from his military service, David embarked on his second career as a deputy sheriff in the Travis County Sheriff’s Department in Austin, TX. After more than twenty years of protecting and serving the citizens of Travis County, David finally retired in 2015.
David’s drive and purpose in life was family. He was always there to lend a helping hand to any family member that was in need. Something he learned from his mother. David loved watching his sports. But, poker was his primary hobby. David loved to travel. He planned to make many trips during his retirement.
David is predeceased by his father, James McClain, and his mother, Willie Mae McClain (née Jones). He is also predeceased by his siblings Mary Cooksey, Booker T McClain, “Pete” McClain, Glenn McClain, Larry McClain, and Margaret Molo (née McClain). David was predeceased by his children Calandra “Cookie” Timmons, and Laura McClain. He was also predeceased by two of his grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife, Margaret McClain (née Seaman), and his children Nicola Vokes (née McClain), Charlene McClain Aikman (née McClain), and LeRoy McClain. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jerrick, Vantrecia, Jaquandra, Jaquan, Reuben, Mikhaila, Téa, Jaiden, “Mali,” and Alicia, and by numerous great-grandchildren; his siblings Lucile Mason (née McClain), Hazel Bernard (née McClain), Pearl Hudson (née McClain), Charles McClain, Robert McClain, Linda Palmer(née McClain), “Papa” McClain, and Sharon Mcfadden (née McClain).
David’s family wish to thank Dr. Geoffrey Cox of South Oaks Family Medicine and the treating physicians and nurses at the Seaton Medical Center on 38th Street in Austin, TX, for the care and kindness they gave to David during the last weeks of his life.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. A Funeral Service honoring David will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 7, 2018, with interment to immediately follow, also at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
